GSN has been established for over 20 years

and provides a safety net for greyhounds who might not otherwise get the chance of a forever home. GSN is a charity run by volunteers, so we appreciate your patience while we are working on the business of rescuing and rehoming greyhounds.
Please note do not promise we will be able to provide a greyhound to you as we allocate greyhounds based on the best match for them, and your home may not be the right match for the greyhounds we currently have in our care.
More information about the adoption process can be found here
Cats and small animals

Unless noted as cat-friendly, most greyhounds will not be considered safe around cats.
We are unable to test greyhounds with chooks, guinea pigs, birds, or other small animals, so please consider this before applying for a greyhound if you have other small animals in the home.
We don't adopt greyhounds by colour
Most greyhounds bred are black, and therefore there are very few other colours available for adoption. We match our greyhounds to applicants based on the greyhound’s personality and needs, not their colour.
Females vs Males?
All greyhounds have individual personalities, but they are all lovely. However as a (grossly) generalized rule, boys tend to be a bit more affectionate and soppy than girls.
Do you live in an Apartment?
It needs more commitment to care for a greyhound in an Apartment. So please read our information on  the Greyhounds and apartment living page before you apply to adopt or foster a GSN greyhound.
All GSN greyhounds are:
  •   Desexed, vaccinated, micro chipped, wormed, heartworm tested and health checked
  •   Shown how to be a pet by our trusted foster carers
At GSN we:
  • Take the time to understand what our dogs need, so will only suggest dogs which are suitable for your circumstances - that also means we will discourage you if you want a dog that your circumstances are not a great match for
  • Introduce you to the foster carer so you can understand more about the greyhound’s personality and needs
  • Offer ongoing support from your greyhound's foster carer and our Adoption Co-ordinator
  • Provide each greyhound with a collar, lead and warm coat

A Sweet and Gentle Girl

Reba is a lovely black greyhound with a gentle and sweet nature. She’s currently living happily in foster care with an elderly greyhound companion and is adjusting well to her new life. While she initially found the outside world a little overwhelming, regular walks around quiet streets are helping her relax and grow in confidence.

Reba is gentle on the lead and doesn’t pull, making her a pleasure to walk. She’s also non-reactive to other dogs she meets on her time exploring outside. At home, Reba’s playful side shines as she adores toys and loves tossing them in the air and chasing after them. She’s fully toilet trained and sleeps peacefully through the night on her bed in the lounge, often near her canine friend.

This sweet girl travels quietly in the car, lying down calmly throughout the trip. While she still needs a little help getting in and out of the car, with time and patience, she’s likely to get the hang of it.
Reba enjoys being around people and is happy to relax on her bed in the same room as you. If you work full-time, she’d love another dog to keep her company, but if you’re home often, she’ll happily soak up your presence.

Reba is a loving companion who’s ready to bring joy and warmth into her forever home. Could she be the perfect match for you?

Reba is not cat or pocket pet tolerant.

Zorro (aka Tommy) - aged almost 4 years

Sponsored by Simba’s Story as a Guardian Angel and Helping Hero

A Playful Pal

Zorro is a fun-loving boy who will bring plenty of playfulness and joy into any loving home. Inside the house, he’s still learning the ropes and has a puppy-like curiosity. He enjoys spending time with people and would be a great match for a family with school-aged children who can join in the fun.

On walks, Zorro’s curiosity about life shines through. While he’s still learning to walk calmly on the lead, he’s eager and fascinated by the world around him. When he spots another dog, all he wants is to go and play, so he’ll need some further training to understand that not all dogs are ready for playtime.

Zorro would thrive in a home where his playful nature is embraced and he has plenty of opportunities to learn and explore. He’d do well in a home with a canine companion who matches his energy and enthusiasm, but he’s also happy as a solo boy.

If you’re looking for a playful and loyal companion, Zorro could be the perfect fit. He’s ready to find a loving home where he can continue his journey from kennel to couch!

Zorro is not cat or pocket pet tolerant.

A Loving and Laid-Back Soul

This 6‑year‑old female Greyhound is a calm and gentle companion with a well‑balanced nature.

Cuddles is good with other dogs and interacts well with children, making her suitable for a variety of households. She walks beautifully on the lead and remains calm and well‑mannered during outings.

She is toilet trained, eats well without fuss, and travels comfortably in the car, even on journeys of around an hour. She’s also confident getting into the car on her own.

Cuddles has a kind and composed personality, with occasional short bursts of playful energy. She enjoys interactive play with both people and other dogs but is equally happy to rest and sleep for extended periods.

Cuddles would suit a home looking for an affectionate, noble companion with a gentle, and friendly nature.

Cuddles is not cat or pocket pet tolerant.

Max - aged 6 years

A Cushion Keeper and Heart Stealer

Max is a calm and affectionate boy who has settled beautifully into home life. Fully house‑trained and very obedient, he’s quick to respond when called, often trotting over with a happy wag of his tail, ready for a pat or a kind word.

One of Max’s favourite pastimes is collecting toys and cushions, which he carefully gathers into a pile without destroying them whatsoever, just likes having his own collection close by. It’s his way of feeling comfortable and content.

When out and about, Max walks nicely on the lead. He’s curious about the world but remains calm and polite when meeting people or passing other dogs. At home, he likes his own space when eating and would be happiest as the only dog in the family.

Max can show possessiveness over certain things, but he responds quickly to gentle reminders and clear structure. A kind, consistent owner who sets boundaries will find him very easy to guide. For example, if he’s tempted to hop on the bed, a simple reminder sends him back to his own spot without any fuss.

After a walk or a play, Max loves to relax, he stretches out for a long nap, often rolling onto his back for a big, comfy roach.

Max is not cat or pocket pet tolerant.

Vinnie - aged almost 9 years

An Easygoing Pal

Vinnie is a quiet, gentle soul with a calm nature that makes him a lovely companion to have around the home. He’s an easy boy to live with, content to rest nearby, taking everything in with peaceful curiosity. Toilet‑trained and well‑mannered, Vinnie fits neatly into daily life without fuss or noise.

When it’s time for a walk, he moves nicely on the lead, matching your pace and showing good manners along the way. He’s not one to pull or rush, instead taking time to enjoy the sights and sounds around him. Vinnie can be reactive to small dogs, as he has a strong prey drive, so he’ll need an owner who can manage that calmly and confidently. For this reason, he would do best in a home without small animals.

At mealtimes, Vinnie is very easygoing and eats well. His favourite moments are often the simple ones, playing with a squeaky toy or curling up for a afternoon nap.

Vinnie is a low‑energy boy who prefers relaxed days and gentle company. He enjoys being around people, showing his affection through quiet presence rather than constant attention. Whether he’s lying at your feet or snoozing on his bed, he’s happy just being near you.

This calm, kind boy will suit a peaceful home with patient owners who enjoy a slow, steady pace of life. Vinnie may not ask for much, but he gives plenty in return, trust, loyalty, and the quiet warmth of a true friend.

Vinnie is not cat or pocket pet tolerant.

Astrid - aged almost 7 years

Picture
Picture

A Sweet Girl Finding Her Confidence

At home, Astrid is easy to live with and happy in her quiet routines. She’s fully toilet trained, walks nicely on the lead, and enjoys car rides without fuss. She currently shares her days with an elderly male greyhound, and the two get along beautifully, often resting side by side. Astrid sleeps peacefully through the night, tucked under her blankets in the lounge, content in her safe little world.

While Astrid has come a long way, she can still be shy when meeting new people. She doesn’t show any aggression, just a bit of hesitation until she feels comfortable. With gentle handling and time, her confidence continues to grow. On her walks, she’s curious but cautious, sometimes startled by unfamiliar sights or sounds. Each outing, however, makes her braver and more relaxed.

Astrid adores affection and quietly leans in for cuddles, resting her head against you as if to say thank you. She would do best in a calm, cat‑free home with another friendly dog or an owner who is home most of the time. For someone looking for a gentle companion to share peaceful days with, Astrid will bring warmth, quiet joy, and the soft company of a loving friend.

Astrid is not cat or pocket pet tolerant.

Monty - aged 4 years

Picture
Picture

Keeping Things Interesting

Monty is a lively and curious boy who fills every day with energy and fun. At home, he enjoys being around people and has a friendly, social nature. He’s toilet trained but, like many dogs who are still learning, has had a few small accidents. When he’s had enough exercise, he settles nicely and loves a quiet nap. However, if he misses his walk, his extra energy can lead to a bit of mischief. He travels well in the car and needs a helping hand to hop in. Stairs aren’t his favourite, though he’ll manage them when encouraged.

Mealtimes are important to Monty. He loves his food and can be quite greedy, so providing him with his own feeding area helps support good behaviour at meals. Away from mealtimes, he’s affectionate and energetic. With clear boundaries and patience, this is something he can continue to improve on.

Out on walks, Monty is curious and easily distracted by interesting smells, so he benefits from a confident handler to guide him. He’s comfortable around busy roads and loud noises and sometimes shows his excitement by jumping up for attention. Monty’s high energy makes him a great match for an active household that can give him daily exercise, structure, and time to unwind. With consistent routines and understanding, he will be a loyal and entertaining companion.

Monty is not cat or pocket pet tolerant.

Jess - aged 5 years

Picture
Picture

Learning to Trust, Ready To Love

Jess, also known as Black Beauty, is a special girl looking for a quiet home with one or two people who will give her time to learn to trust. She needs someone who won’t be offended if she chooses to go to another room when visitors arrive. You see, Jess is frightened of people. Once she has settled, though, she’s just like any other five‑year‑old greyhound: playful, cheeky, and full of little quirks. She enjoys playing with toys, doing the occasional zoomie, collecting slippers, and even digging an odd hole now and then. She is toilet trained and loves her food (and will happily remind you when it’s mealtime!).

Jess gets along well with other dogs, except when they come attached to humans, then she prefers to hide rather than interact. There’s no aggression, just shyness. She’s a lovely walker as long as her surroundings are quiet; if people are around, she simply wants to head home.

Jess isn’t the right dog if you’re looking for one to take everywhere or live in a busy city environment. She would be happiest in a calm home on the fringe or in the country, where she can enjoy peaceful walks at quiet times of the day. Jess would also do well living with another dog for company.

Jess is not cat or pocket pet tolerant.

Milo - aged almost 5 years

Picture
Picture

Great Things Start From Small

Milo is a beautiful, big boy who is thriving in his foster home. He is fully toilet trained, sleeps soundly through the night, and loves his toys.

Milo has lived with other greyhounds in foster care and tends to gravitate toward female dogs, though he would also be just as happy as an only dog. He is comfortable being left alone while you’re at work or out for the day, and you’ll be greeted by an eager, happy boy when you return.

He can get in and out of the car on his own, although he may take a little time to settle once inside. Milo enjoys his daily walks, but he can become overexcited when he sees other dogs. He isn’t aggressive, just very keen to say hello, and may start jumping around in his enthusiasm. He is currently attending training classes to help manage this behaviour.

Milo is a big, gentle, and affectionate boy who would best suit a home with high-school-aged children. With his kind nature and loving personality, he’s sure to bring warmth and joy to any home lucky enough to have him.

Milo is not cat or pocket pet tolerant.

Baz - aged almost 4 years

Picture
Picture

From Couch Manners to Fetch Skills

Meet Baz! Baz is a very mellow dog and an easy companion. He walks well on the lead without pulling and travels beautifully in the car. He’s quiet at night, fully toilet trained, doesn’t go on the couch, and is learning to go to his bed when told.

He has also learned to live peacefully with chickens, as long as they stay in their coop. Baz enjoys two walks a day, needs good‑quality food to avoid tummy upsets, and loves neck scratches. He takes treats gently and even plays fetch with a tennis ball.

Baz would suit a family with older children, new retirees, or full‑time workers, or he’d simply love to be a constant companion. He does need a backyard where he can burn off some energy.

Baz is not cat or pocket pet tolerant.

Ready to Run Into Your Heart

Connie is actually short for con-artist, because she’ll charm you with her good looks and sweet sugary face, and then reveal she is very much not a couch potato. Instead, this four and a half year old is a magical mix of rocket-powered chopsticks with a super brain. One thing to know about Connie is that whilst she has The Biggest and Cutest Personality, she is small in stature, making her the ultimate 25kg pocket rocket.

Always ready for life’s greatest joys: zooming around, playing fetch (and yes, she’ll bring it back too), rolling in things that smell amazing, solving puzzles and finding new things to be curious about. Connie will also fit a little snooze in to recharge her speed sticks.

One of Connie’s favourite hobbies is leaving a trail of toys from her basket into the yard. You’ll usually find her at the end, sprawled in the grass with her tongue lolling in pure joy. Connie is living solo in her foster home but has met and socialised well with other greyhounds. She lives by the motto that a friend is just someone you haven’t met (and leaned on) yet. In Connie’s world, that applies just as much to fellow greyhounds as it does to people.

Though Connie has shown she can spend time on her own, she would absolutely adore having a houndie friend and a human who enjoys greyhound gatherings and walks, so she can continue living her best life as the social butterfly she is. With her bright, curious mind, Connie is the kind of dog who picks up new things in a flash. She loves using that clever noggin, so activities like trick training, agility, or even nose-work could be wonderfully enriching, and a lovely way to build a strong bond together.

A home with a yard for her daily zoomies would suit her beautifully, and because of her enthusiastic approach to life, a family with older children would be best.

Connie isn’t suited to homes with small dogs, pocket pets, or cats.
