GSN has been established for over 15 years

and provides a safety net for greyhounds who might not otherwise get the chance of a forever home. GSN is a charity run by volunteers, so we appreciate your patience while we are working on the business of rescuing and rehoming greyhounds.
Please note do not promise we will be able to provide a greyhound to you as we allocate greyhounds based on the best match for them, and your home may not be the right match for the greyhounds we currently have in our care.
More information about the adoption process can be found here
Cats and small animals

Unless noted as cat-friendly, most greyhounds will not be considered safe around cats.
We are unable to test greyhounds with chooks, guinea pigs, birds, or other small animals, so please consider this before applying for a greyhound if you have other small animals in the home.
We don't adopt greyhounds by colour
Most greyhounds bred are black, and therefore there are very few other colours available for adoption. We match our greyhounds to applicants based on the greyhound’s personality and needs, not their colour.
Females vs Males?
All greyhounds have individual personalities, but they are all lovely. However as a (grossly) generalized rule, boys tend to be a bit more affectionate and soppy than girls.
Do you live in an Apartment?
It needs more commitment to care for a greyhound in an Apartment. So please read our information on  the Greyhounds and apartment living page before you apply to adopt or foster a GSN greyhound.
All GSN greyhounds are:
  •   Desexed, vaccinated, micro chipped, wormed, heartworm tested and health checked
  •   Shown how to be a pet by our trusted foster carers
At GSN we:
  • Take the time to understand what our dogs need, so will only suggest appropriate dogs for your circumstances - that also means we will discourage you if you want a dog that we know you are not a great match for
  • Introduce you to the foster carer so you can understand more about the greyhound’s personality and needs
  • Offer ongoing support from your greyhound's foster carer and our Adoption Co-ordinator
  • Provide each greyhound with a collar, lead and warm coat

Sweet Clover

Clover has happy dreams in in many positions. She loves to sleep next to a favourite person on the couch and is just as happy to quietly sleep all day alone or with human company.

Clover loves her all-weather walks and she walks well on the lead. An invitation to walk invokes great joy, however Clover is fearful of other dogs because she was in the past attacked twice by aggressive dogs.

With watchful, positive and gradual reintroduction to dogs outdoors and to children, Clover will be able to learn to trust and feel safe again.

Clover is presently living in harmony with another companion dog at home. She’s also lived happily for years as an only dog. A good eater, Clover is polite around food. She loves bowing for treats, attempting to catch treats in her mouth and doing small zoomies. She adores tummy rubs and will often stretch out her leg to your hand to ask you to hold her paw. Clover would be best suited to a quiet household without small children. She will do best in a quieter suburb rather than the City where she’s likely to encounter dogs around every corner.

Clover is not cat tolerant.

Talkin Paddy

Paddy is such a handsome boy with his beautiful fine white coat and big red patches. He is quite chilled and well behaved around the house. He is thoroughly enjoying the company of 2 other canine companions.

His current foster carers feel he might do best in a home where there is someone home a LOT or at least with another dog. He loves his tucker, so is easy to feed, loves the car, but does need help getting into the car.

He is toilet trained and if the door to outside is not open, he does come and ‘tell’ you that he needs to go out, even at night, although this is rare. Paddy sleeps peacefully inside at night in the lounge room or next to his foster carer’s bed. Paddy’s choice!

Paddy ‘talks’ and ‘sings’ at you when it is time for his walk (his favourite thing). See video of ‘talking’ Paddy.
Paddy was a bit dog reactive on lead when he first came into foster care. However he has responded extremely well to consistent training for this, with loads of positive reinforcement and treats for behaving appropriately. We recommend that his adopter continue with this. He does want to please, but Park walking could be a bit overwhelming for him.
He will now mostly stand quietly when getting him ready for his walks. He can be quite strong on the lead at first, but he is being consistently trained to stop this, too and there is obvious progress everyday. Once his excitement about his walk settles down, he calms down nicely on the lead, with a bit of reminding.

Paddy can be quite bouncy when excited, so not recommended for a family with young children or elderly family members, nor cats.

Paddy  is not cat tolerant.

Fox - aged 7 years

walk? I'm waiting at the door!

This is Fox the gorgeous black 7-year-old who loves a snuggle and fetching a tennis ball. Say the word “walk” and his ears will perk up, tail will wag and he'll be waiting at the door!
Fox will be sure to approach his humans for a cuddle but also likes his personal space when he sleeps and can often get a fright and growl if disturbed. He is such a sweet boy who's great to walk and loves a car ride. He's toilet trained and not fussy with food but does get a little on edge when he smells something interesting being cooked. Fox can become anxious around men so would be best suited to a single female owner, who has had some experience with anxious greyhounds, is patient and willing to guide him during his moments of anxiety, can provide a regular routine, and most importantly adores him. Fox is a great alarm system and will alert you with a bark if there are intruders or a cheeky possum on the roof at night.
Fox was adopted in 2018, however, since his adopters decided to grow the human family, Fox has become increasingly anxious. The nature of a house with children and the busy schedule, has made his current family no longer a good fit for  his personality. His original adopters are devastated and have made a very difficult decision to rehoming Fox in a place where he feels more secure. However, they are offering ongoing support as he transitions into a new family. For this reason, his new forever home will need to be a quiet environment without children or other dogs.

Gilbert  - aged 3 years

Young, brave and curious boy

Gilbert is a laid back, brave and curious young dog. His first instinct with household noises (washing machine, vacuum, etc) is to go up and check them out. He walks well on the lead, somewhat blase about busy main roads or shopping centre streets. However, he is a strong boy, particularly when something like a dog barking peaks his interest and would therefore not be suitable for an elderly person or unsupervised child to walk him.

While he is still getting the hang of having a name, he obeys commands such as "no" or "out". He is toilet trained, sleeping through the night and booping you with his nose in the morning when he can't wait any longer.

He can get in and out of a 4WD either laying down settled or with his nose out the window.
He has shared his time in foster care with 2 other greyhounds (male and female) and would be well suited to a home with another medium to large dog. He thrives on human affection and company, often following you around the house, but this will settle down once he becomes comfortable in his forever home.

He loves to be where the people are, pulling his bed into the lounge, so he can be with you while you watch TV, will make him very happy. He would need another dog if you work full time, or he would do just fine as an only dog if you are home quite a bit. He hasn’t been tested with small children (however showing no particular interest when passing them on walks) and fine with those 12+.

Gilbert is not cat tolerant.

The tug of war player

Mary is a beautiful lady that started her life as a pet being a bit shy, but has settled in really well now, she is great out on walks, is fine with traffic noises etc. She still does not like dogs rushing up to her, but she is okay if she can have a sniff of a new calm dog and then move away. She gets a bit overwhelmed with crowds, but happy for strangers to pat her when down the street. She usually sleeps all night, but sometimes has to go out for a drink or toilet. She will let you know by whining if she needs to go out in the middle of the night.

She would suit a home with another dog who is happy to wrestle and do zoomies. She gets along really well with another dog in her current foster home, sharing bones and food, and sleeping together. If there is no other dog, she just needs someone to play tug of war with, a 30/45 minute walk in the morning and then time for zoomies and play in the afternoon. She would not suit young children or frail adults as she is a bit jumpy and play bites she when wants to play. But she is learning to play tug of war instead of play biting humans.

Mary likes to follow you around everywhere, but has been fine home alone for 3 hours, sleeping the time away on her bed and couch. She does like to sneak up on the couch and human beds, but is learning "down" and "bed". Mary is a quick learner and loves treats and is also learning to use a dog door.  This is still a work in progress.

She travels amazingly in the car and jumps up anytime the boot is open, whether she is coming or not! She sleeps most of the time in the car, and has been on 2 and 3 hour car trips with no problems at all.

Mary is not cat tolerant.

Thank you for hearing me

Sassy is a lovely fun-loving little girl. She is full of energy, loves to meet people, is very affectionate and loves her cuddles. She enjoys to play with other dogs and toys.

Sassy is almost completely deaf, only responding to the loudest noises (like powerful motor bikes). While she can’t hear you, you can get her attention by wagging your fingers or gently tapping her, but she will need a family who can accommodate her special needs.

Sassy is not cat tolerant.

Little messy but full of love

Please note:  in the photos Ebby wears a boot for a temporary injury to her foot which is now healed.

Ebby is a very sweet girl who loves life.

She loves to do a zoomie so would suit a home with a yard. She loves toys and collecting things but is a bit disorganised as she leaves things anywhere.

Ebby loves to go for walks & enjoys getting out & about. She travels well in the car & can jump in & out.

Ebby loves food. She does have a sensitive stomach but is well settled on a diet of dry food & chicken roll.

She has had most of her teeth out so can’t eat bones or hard food. Ebby would be fine with another dog or by herself if she has company.

Ebby is not cat tolerant.

So ready to give love

Barbie is an affectionate and playful girl. She has opened up a lot during her foster care and is a delight to have around.

She has been doing really well on her walks, responding to basic commands and only lightly pulling if excited. She will enthusiastically accept pats from anyone that offers. Occasionally she gets excited about meeting other dogs but mostly she just wants to explore and sniff. She is very patient, but she will give you a nudge with her head or put her head between your legs if she wants to keep on moving.

Barbie is currently living in an apartment and has been doing really well with no accidents inside and no destructive behaviour. After her morning walk and breakfast, she settles on the bed in the sun for the day (but she knows to go to her own at bedtime).

Barbie has been left alone at home with no issues during my working days. However, due to her social nature, she would do well in a household with more people around.

Barbie is not cat tolerant.

Dougie - aged 4 years

The happy tail whipper

Dougie is a big Goofy boy. He has a beautiful temperament; and is currently living with a family of four with two school-aged children and a German Shepherd dog. He gets along very well with all of them. He is quite playful, enjoys playing with toys and is very food motivated, so it is easy to teach him new tricks. He has good manners inside the house, but has had a very few toilet accidents.

Dougie is relaxed and friendly with people, he loves being around humans, so would suit a home where someone is working from home on an ongoing basis. He has been left on his own for a couple of hours with no destructive behaviour seen, but when humans return home, he gets a little too excited. Considering his size and the whips of his happy tail, he might be too much of a dog for children under 10yo.

On walks, he is good on the leash, no pulling and most of the time walking to heel. Although playful, Dougie is not a very active dog, so he is okay with a couple 30-minute walks a day, or being in your company during short walks for shopping. He is also good with other dogs and is learning to jump into the back of large cars like SUVs or UTEs.

We believe Dougie is a good fit for first time dog owners that can be with him most of the time.

Dougie is not cat tolerant.

Certified Cuddlebug

Miss Molly wears her heart on her sleeve and also her chin! She loves nothing more than a snuggle and an ear rub, and she’ll let you know when she’s ready for your attention with those sweet, puppy dog eyes. She adores people and is so excited to meet new admirers.

She loves her food which makes mealtimes a breeze and training even easier. She’s currently working on ‘on your bed’ and ‘leave it’. Molly is very playful and full of energy, so would benefit from two short walks, or one longer walk, each day. Speaking of walks, Molly isn’t reactive to her collar, leash or even other dogs, and isn’t bothered by neighbourhood cats. She is very curious on her walks and is getting used to all of the traffic sounds (her foster family think she’s very brave).

She sleeps easily through the nights are rarely needs a midnight toilet break.

Molly loves her foster brother (another greyhound) and would do well either alone or with another greyhound. When left with her brother, she’s had no separation anxiety and will happily nap through – but she hasn’t been left completely alone yet.

Because of her love of big cuddles, she is best suited to a home with adults only or with children over 10 years.

Molly is not cat tolerant.

Spencer - aged 6 ½ years

You've got a friend in me 🎵

Spencer is a gorgeous boy with a friendly personality. He sleeps the day away happily and makes himself comfortable on his bed, but given the chance loves a snuggle on the couch or bed if allowed. He enjoys 'singing', and zoomies in the backyard, showing off his speed and agility.

He is currently living happily with another greyhound but is also equally happy on his own. He has excellent manners around food.

He walks really well on the lead, is gentle and follows instruction. He enjoys a daily walk. Spencer loves taking a drive in the car and jumps independently in and out of the back with encouragement. He manages long trips with no problems.

Spencer has had regular vet checks, teeth cleans and has had some teeth removed. He still tolerates a diet of mostly dry food mixed with a little soft food or liquid. He doesn't jump and would be appropriate around older children.

Spencer gets a bit anxious when is left alone, so would prefer a family where someone is at home often during the day.

Spencer is not cat tolerant.
