Volunteer with GSN

GSN relies on volunteers and foster carers to provide a Safety Net to help rescue and rehome retired Greyhounds who may not otherwise be saved.  You can volunteer in however small a way on an ongoing basis with GSN’s important work.
The basic requirements are that you can use your computer with appropriate security settings to receive, access and store GSN information and action GSN business; and have a car available if what you are nominating for involves transporting.

Our team has a wealth of experience, so our committee members (depending on task) will be mentoring you for each of the works.

Hands-on volunteering

We operate in the Melbourne South East suburbs, mostly on weekdays and during school hours, so we would be looking for your involvement for up to 3 hours per week. Hands-on works require activities such as:
  • Temperament testing at greyhound properties.
  • Transport dogs between vet clinics, boarding kennels, foster carers and adopters.
  • Liaise with trainers/owners, vet clinics, shelters and other rescue groups about greyhounds for intake.

Office-related volunteering

If you cannot assist with hands-on work we also have some activities that can be done from home including:
Information management:
  • Update, and where necessary, create spreadsheets to record relevant information.
  • Assist with paperwork, such as microchip transfers, updating changes of ownership with GRV, filling out details in adoption contracts, sending out forms to be filled in and following up on the return of forms.
Relationship management:
  • Respond to adoption applications, follow up with updates from foster carers and liaise between applicants, foster carers and our Adoption Co-ordinator Julie.
  • Co-ordinate the involvement of other volunteers, such as for promotion events or in other assisting roles.

You can also volunteer by fostering one of our lovely greyhounds

If you are unsure about helping with the activities above, you may wish to help out fostering one of our greyhounds. Check out our 'Fostering FAQ' page and fill in the 'Fostering application form'.
